Title:Night

Author:Elie Wiesel

Pages read:42-58

SUMMARY

At Birkenau, people were selected because the Nazis wanted to see who was weaker and if you were you get to be killed. Eliezer and his father weren't separated but they were from his mother and younger sister. Then Eliezer and his father meet a prisoner who tells them to lie about their ages. After that Eliezer with his father and other people went to see Dr. Mengele to determine if they are good to work or whether they are to be killed immediately. Yet again Eliezer and his father were to lie about what they did and age they were in. The poisoners and Eliezer were told to keep walking through Birkenau and has they walked they saw a huge pit with babies and other adults being burn to death. Then they are lectured by a Nazi officer and told that they have two options: hard work or the crematorium. when they arrived to the camp everyone was being check for gold crowns. After Eliezer and his father arrive in Buna, Eliezer is called to the dentist to have his gold crown pulled. He manages to lie that he is ill and postpone having the crown removed. Soon after, the dentist is punished to for illegally trading in gold teeth. Months and days later Eliezer sees that same girl he saw at Buna and tell her that how much the concentration camp has changed him. The next day everyone gather out side to eat and there was a huge pot of soup. No one had the guts to go over there and get some, so one man goes over there he makes it but when he starts eating he gets shot and falls to they ground.
The quote I believed to be important is when Eliezer say,"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in camp, which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed. Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the little faces of the children, whose bodies I saw turned into wreaths of smoke beneath a silent blue sky.Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever.Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never." This quote is important because Eliezer was put through alot into the concentration camps and he will never forget what he saw. This was a really hard seeing your own kind of people being killed right in your face and unable to stop looking. That night is unforgettable and always stay with him as long as god himself.
Opinion
My opinion on Night is that it wasnt fair what happen to Eliezer and his family and other jews,it was cruel and unjustice. Being put through that and being in Eliezer shoes must had been a terriable thing to be in. Reading this book i realized that the jews were put in hell and couldn't be free. Also seeing your father get beat by a Nazi officier and not being able to do anything must have been hard. These people did nothing do deserve it and just because th nazi didn't like jews they paid the price.
